15 tips how mold does not even arise

15 tips how mold does not even arise – correct airing and Co.

So that the mold remover does not even have to be used, it is important not to let the mold develop. Those who implement the following tips and advice, which are based on years of experience, has done everything necessary to prevent mold.

  1. Proper Ventilation – Humidity within the room is reduced by regularly renewing the air. With a draft of about three minutes, half a liter of water vapor can be released. Especially when cooking and after showering, this is important. Basically, should be aired several times a day.
  2. Blowing air- walls should not cool down. What is important is an exchange of the CO2-polluted and wet room against fresh air from outside. At best, windows should be completely opened for a short time. Even in rain or fog, moisture gets from the room to the outside and not vice versa.
  3. No tilting and heating – When tilted and heated at the same time, the components cool down at the outlet and, as a result of the resulting condensation, they are a good nutrient for mildew.
  4. Showering – The water in the shower cubicle can be removed with a squeegee . Brief airing after using the shower and subsequent heating of the room prevents the formation of mold.
  5. Comfort ventilation in energy-saving houses- Saving energy is important. If this is achieved by preventing the heat from escaping, a ventilation system may be required for these new buildings. Partly this comfort ventilation is even prescribed.
  6. Using the hygrometer – In winter, humidity above 40% becomes critical. In summer, 60% relative humidity in the room should not be exceeded.
  7. Closing doors – If the rooms are heated to different degrees, for example between the living room and the corridor, the doors should be closed.
  8. Dry laundry outside- Wet laundry increases the water content in the circulating air in the room should it be dried indoors. If drying in the sun is not possible, a regular exchange of air is necessary.
  9. Install furniture at a distance – Avoid contact between furniture and cold exterior walls. A distance of 10 cm is recommended for improved air circulation.
  10. Control potting soil – Plants also collect water in the room. Often these should not be kept too moist. If the earth starts to mold, it has to be replaced.
  11. Use limescale wall plaster – lime is considered a building material, which effectively acts against mold. Once this is installed, the fungus has a hard time spreading. The same applies to mineral colors.
  12. Cover aquariums – An aquarium can not be operated without a cover. This also increases the proportion of moisture in the room air.
  13. Improve external insulation – Good external insulation ensures that the interior walls cool down less. There are lower temperature differences and mold is less likely.
  14. Use exhaust fans – In rooms with permanently high humidity, a fan can be integrated.
  15. Install energy-efficient windows – The draft and thus the thermal bridges are reduced when closing very tightly.

Preventing it is always preferable to removing mold. Often, however, it is a double-edged sword. Better insulation and insulated frames avoid mold on the one hand. The fact that less naturally ventilated, but also creates fertile soil. Therefore, the right ventilation is essential here as well. If you are not home for a long time, you should think about a comfort fan or exhaust fan.

For new buildings, the following regulations must be observed in order to prevent the formation of mildew:

  • DIN 4108-2: 2001-03 – Minimum thermal insulation
  • DIN 18195 – Waterproofing against rising soil moisture
  • DIN 4108-3 – Protection against driving rain

If you have the mold in the accommodation, you can remember these tips for prevention. First, however, measures must be taken to remove the mold properly.
