LOTS OF SOUL NEAR MUNICH // THE SOULMADE IN GARCHING

Advertising / press trip

The middle of March was the first trip for us this year and for me it was the first time to Munich. I’ve wanted to visit the city in southern Germany for so long. It may seem all the more surprising that we didn’t live directly in Munich but in the tranquil suburb of Garching. That was solely due to the SOULMADE Hotel. It has such a different philosophy that we had to watch it live and on site. Because let’s start with: SOULMADE has so many sustainable approaches and has simply completely turned the way the hotel industry thinks and acts. It gives the guests a second home. And that near Munich. But now I’ll start all over again.

The SOULMADE in Garching is a different kind of hotel – much more of an outsourced home.

On Thursday morning we left for Munich by plane. Instead of telling the taxi driver that we are headed straight for the center, we let ourselves be driven to the tranquil suburb of Garching. There is a different kind of hotel there: the SOULMADE. As soon as you step in, you notice that the original concept of the hotel industry has been turned off its hinges. When checking in, nobody stands behind a reception counter. Rather, we stand next to each other and check in together with the staff. Everyone is very friendly, but you meet more at eye level. Like hosts who receive us in their home.

Before we go to our room, we urgently need a little refreshment. In addition to coffee and tea, which are prepared for us at the open counter, we can choose soups and snacks in the Emma store. We have many vegan and vegetarian options to choose from. In addition, delicious bread is served and we slowly replenish our energy reserves. Romy rushes towards the play area and we can always stash a few toys at the table for her, which will keep her busy while we are eating.

When business meets rompers so easily, then a concept must have worked out well.

The entire lobby area – which is more of an outsourced living room and is therefore also referred to as the living room in the hotel – is simply wonderfully cozy. Relaxed music, candles in the open fireplace, it’s pleasantly warm. A few business people work here and there. Suddenly some mothers come in with their offspring. A breastfeeding group as we are told. And everything works naturally side by side. When business meets rompers so easily, then a concept must have worked out well.

After refreshment, we want to bring our luggage to the room. The path alone gives us more pleasant surprises. We discover so many sustainable little things. A lot of natural materials were used in the construction of the hotel. All the wood creates a warm atmosphere. And next to the materials, the latest technology shines. Ruben always admires that he feels a bit like being in a sci-fi movie. I feel very similar.

And the rooms are real space savers. We have a small kitchen, dining area, living room and bedroom with an adjoining bathroom. All nooks and crannies are well thought out. The taps in the bathroom only work with motion detectors (the best water saver), the towels are made of organic cotton and there is a separate cell phone in the room, which acts as a city guide for the guest. We really have everything we need here.

The connection to Munich from Garching is unbeatable.

Of course, we are still drawn to Munich. We notice relatively quickly that it is no problem at all to get from Garching to Munich. Simply take the train for 20 minutes without changing trains. We are already in the middle of the action. And during our entire stay we only use this one subway line and do the rest of the way on foot. The weekend in Munich is the first this year that feels like spring and we enjoy exploring the city.

In the evening Romy falls into bed dead tired. And we can easily relax in the room next door. Eat a little something, read a book or watch TV.

If it had fit in my suitcase, I would have stolen the bed from the SOULMADE.

My absolute highlight is the bed. I have seldom been so in love with a bed. At the head end there are sockets for our iPhones, which Romy cannot reach. And a shelf on which we can put your bottle at night. If the bed had fit in my suitcase, I would have liked to take it with me. In the morning I like to spend a little longer in the white sheets to cuddle with Romy.

But a delicious breakfast is already waiting for us in the living room. Even vegan is no problem at all thanks to some spreads and rice milk in the coffee. After breakfast we either chill for an hour in the large living room of the SOULMADE Hotel or take turns doing sports in the gym. In the Soulmade there is namely the first pavigym in a hotel. In this manageably large room you can do hundreds of exercises – instead of classic fitness exercises, the focus here is on functional training, yoga, Pilates or TRX and on exercises to stabilize and keep the body healthy. After that it’s bedtime again for our little rocket. She has to recharge her batteries when she walks through Munich with us in the afternoon.

Romy recharges energy while sleeping and we finally enjoy a little time for ourselves.

While the little one is taking her afternoon nap, we make a coffee in our room with the French press and the fresh beans that are available there for us and each guest, and read. It doesn’t feel like wasted time by any means. We are much more likely to finally recover from everyday life.

What did the SOULMADE definitely achieve? We immediately feel at home here and can relax quickly. This feeling, which you either have or not, cannot be described at all. It is simply the many little things that come together to form a whole. And because you don’t have words for everything, I just grabbed Ole Kloth and had a little interview with him.

After the interview, I said to Ole that if I lived in the neighborhood, I would go to SOULMADE for a coffee with a friend. And I hardly ever have that with hotels. The SOULMADE has managed to become an integral part of the neighborhood: whether it’s breastfeeding groups, cooking courses or the latest series of events: the CouchConcerts – there is always something going on in the SOULMADE Living Room. In a homely atmosphere. As with friends.

And Munich like that?

Exactly, before I totally forget Munich: it is absolutely worth the trip. Ruben and I were totally in love with the city and didn’t notice the narrow-mindedness that Munich is often assumed to be. I also ate vegan as well as I haven’t for a long time. There was an opportunity to do this at almost every corner. We will come back in any case.

xxbina

In friendly cooperation with SOULMADE
